Session 2: Lease Accounting’s New Standards
Alvin Wade, Managing Partner, Grant Thornton

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) are working together to create a new common standard on lease accounting that will affect commercial real estate lease arrangements. Adoption of the new standard is expected in 2011 and will likely cause real estate lease liabilities to be accounted for as debt on a lessee's balance sheet.

Companies will want to proactively structure real estate transactions to fit their financial profile and avoid unexpected effects from accounting for leases. Learn how this change will impact the balance sheets of office business center operators, and, most importantly, learn how this change will create more prospects for operators, as large corporations seek alternatives to long term leases, in order to limit the impact of this change.

This session should be attended by those responsible for structuring leases as well as sales and marketing professionals dealing with corporate clients.

Session 3: Social Media: A Boon to the Company or an Excuse for Personal Time?
Brian Barakat, Esq., Barakat, Jacobs & Associates
Wendy Spreenberg
, SITE REsolutions

This session will address HR policies relative to social media and electronic marketing & communication as well as web usage. When is such communication appropriate? When does it cross the line? Is social media a competitive advantage for assertive employees and their company or is it an excuse for personal use on company time? What should company policies be with respect to social media and staff web usage? What are best practices for monitoring activity and for taking disciplinary action on staff when warranted? When should such behavior be rewarded? And finally, how does your company maximize its exposure while minimizing its risk through such activity?

This session will address those questions with an understanding of the law, human resources considerations and the needs of OBCs.
